Trinity Rescue Mission's inaugural golf tournament was held this spring at the Golf Club at South Hampton.

The golfers were greeted with a special treat – bagpipe music. Greg Matovina of Matovina and Company and past president of the Northeast Florida Builders Association agreed to wear a kilt if his team exceeded their goals, and they did. Matovina arrived in full dress and was surprised with the bagpipe music, provided by the Jacksonville Pipes and Drums.

Matovina played the entire 18 holes of golf wearing the kilt and his team tied for second place.

The winning team overall was from R.L. Webb Stucco. The players were Ricky Webb, Rudy Webb, Craig Ross and Darren Mace. Each player won a free golf game at the Golf Club at South Hampton.

Key participants were from the Northeast Florida Builders and other Trinity Rescue Mission contributors. NEFBA members have been instrumental in the construction of the Trinity’s Women and Children’s Center due to open this summer.

The real winners of the day were those who pledged to raise $1,800 and either met or exceeded their goal. Because of their determination and willingness to contact companies and people to sponsor them, Trinity Rescue Mission was able to reach the goal that was set to complete the daycare center for the Women and Children’s Center.

“The funds raised during this event will help cover the cost of the daycare in the Women and Children's Center during the first year,” said Gene Pruett, executive director of Trinity Rescue Mission. “With the playground donated by Mercedes Homes and a play area in the daycare, the children who come to us will be able to leave their cares behind and just be kids. Trinity Rescue Mission is once again overwhelmed with gratitude for the caring, compassionate community on the First Coast!”

Trinity will host the August NEFBA board meeting Aug. 16 as part of the Center’s grand opening festivities.
